So Many Options, which Whitening System is for you?

Today there are many Teeth Whitening Systems on the Internet, in catalogs, and over-the-counter. Teeth Whitening Systems are even at the grocery stores and at your dentist office. There are many different methods to get your teeth whiter, which are at-home bleaching kits, bonding, porcelain veneers, and whitening toothpastes. All of these have been tested. So which one of these are the best to use?

At home bleaching kit

At home bleaching kits are the most popular whitening option. There is usually more than one dentist visit for this procedure. Basically dentists get out the mouth trays that are right for you and then the dentist provides a whitening brand suitable for your needs. Then you take the tray home and wear it for an hour or sometimes you have to wear it through the night. Teeth whiten systems work at different rates. The main reasons are related to age, smoking and diet (e.g. red wine, coffee, and cola, heavily staining foods).

Reports have shown that the younger group has a better chance of obtaining whiter teeth.

Studies have shown that bleaching using the dentist-prescribed home bleaching technique is perfectly safe on the teeth, cheeks, gums and tissues of the mouth. It is not, however, advisable to bleach your teeth if you smoke. It is best to stop smoking for at least three weeks before commencing the bleaching procedure. Smoking causes the teeth to darken anyway and the effects will be diminished. The price of dental kits range from $300 dollars to $500, or more, depending on the dentist...

Bonding

Bonding is another option for whiter teeth. It is a composite resin that is molded onto the teeth to change the color and to reshape your teeth. Dental composite comes in a variety of tooth-colored shades, so when it is placed it can closely mimic the appearance of natural tooth structure. This material can chip and stain over a period of time. This procedure can be done usually in one office visit. The cost is usually $300 - $700 per tooth. This procedure seems to be pricey.

Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers are the most recent application of the art and science of cosmetic dental bonding. They are shell -like facings that are bonded onto stained teeth. They whiten the teeth but are also used for reshaping and lengthen teeth as well. This procedure requires at least two office visits. The cost for this method is $700 to $1200 per tooth. Porcelain veneers, because they are glass-like, have a great advantage over other types of cosmetic dental bonding by the fact that they are translucent. When they are bonded onto a tooth's surface they mimic the light handling characteristics of enamel.

Whitening toothpastes

Whitening toothpastes effectively keep the teeth cleaner, but some are more abrasive than other toothpastes. Stronger toothpastes depend on abrasion to remove external stains than actually changing the color of your teeth. What people have to do is look at the product's ingredients to see if it changes their color. Then consult your oral health care professional to seek advice.
